089: Navigating the "Great Resignation": Taking Advantage of a Competitive Job Market for Older Adults with Ismat Mangla

In this episode of Saving With Steve, host Steve Sexton is joined by Senior Director of Content at MagnifyMoney, Ismat Mangla, who is a veteran journalist with a background in writing about personal finance and savings.

The start of the pandemic brought many changes to the job market, and two years later we are still feeling the effects. The latest MagnifyMoney study finds that the proportion of working adults 65 and older is rising as older Americans are coming out of retirement. This comes amidst rising wages, inflation, and a labor shortage. Amid the “Great Resignation many Americans have taken advantage of the competitive job market which can include higher wages, sign o bonuses, and more options for those job hunting, former retirees included.

My guest, Ismat Mangla, joins us to discuss how to navigate the "Great Resignation," and the spike in older adults returning to the workforce as the pandemic continues. She talks about why Americans are coming out of retirement and looking for work, what older aged adults can do to find work, what they should look out for, and what to know about the social security retirement earnings test and inflation.
